Range of motion, the fast way. PNF pairs passive stretching with brief isometric contraction to unlock range of motion that static stretching alone struggles to reach.
What is Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation?
PNF combines passive stretching with isometric contraction in a three-step sequence: your therapist stretches the muscle for about ten seconds, you push gently against resistance for about six, then the muscle is stretched again, further than before.
The technique works with your nervous system's own signalling between brain and muscle, rather than just pulling on tissue.
Expect direction throughout — your therapist will tell you exactly when to push and when to relax.
